Chong Wei tested positive for Dexamethasone at the World Championships in Copenhagen last year. The substance suppresses inflammation and normal immune response, and is used systemically and locally to treat chronic inflammatory disorders, severe allergies, and other diseases. Short suspensions for this substance is quite common. In The Anti-Doping Database we have registered 27 cases - not including Chong Wei - where most of the suspensions are up to one year or shorter. The athlete has been temporarily suspended by the BWF after testing positive and given a hearing by a BWF panel on April 11.
