33 athletes suspended for four years in 2015


33 athletes has so far in 2015 been suspended for four years after violating anti-doping rules.

 

This is more than twice as many as last year, where only ten athletes were suspended this long. It is how ever not as many as in 2008 when 48 athletes were given a four year suspension. In total 260 athletes has been given a four year ban, 25 of these are Russian athletes. Canada has suspended 22 and Italy has suspended 21 athletes for four years. Athletics is the sport where most athletes has been given this lengthy ban. 72 athletes from this sport has been registered in the Anti-Doping Database. Weightlifting comes in second with 56 cases, while cycling is in third with 41 cases. Anabolic agents is involved in most cases with 147 in total. Methandienone is the most used substance in these cases. 45 athletes tested positive for this substance. Nandrolone and Stanozolol follows with 31 and 28 cases.
