CERA, or the third generation EPO, is popular among cyclists. Of 48 cases registered in the Anti-Doping Database, 33 are cyclists.
Continuous Erythropoeitin Receptor Activators (CERA) got some attention after known riders like Davide Rebellin got caught after testing positive in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games.
In 2017 we registered 15 cases involving this substance. Our statistics also shows italian, Costa Rican and Colombian riders are involved in most of the cases.
In 2017 six riders tested positive for CERA during the Vuelta a Colombia. The same year the same number of riders tested positive during the Vuelta Ciclista Internacional a Costa Rica.
Three riders has tested positive for CERA during the Tour de France. These riders are Leonardo Piepol (Italia), Bernhard Kohl (Austria) and Riccardo Ricco (Italia).
